"That's one funny sheep you've got there..."

Tonight after dinner, we were playing with Pumpkin on the floor while Kiddo was upstairs getting ready for bed. Sweetie took this little soft rattle that's shaped like a multicolored sheep and pretended like it was running toward Pumpkin.

This was quite possibly the most hilarious thing that Pumpkin has seen in her 5 1/2 months of existence. At least, judging by her reaction.

I mean, we've heard little giggles from her before. We've heard her scream happily when she's doing something she enjoys. But tonight was the first full-out no-holds-barred belly laughing that we've heard from our daughter.

It was beautiful.

"It's the final countdown..."

Okay, so I've had that song by Europe in my head all freaking day...can't imagine why. ;-) We're nine hours away, and both of us just bubbling from a combination of excitedness, anticipation, and nervousness. Kiddo's spending the night with grandma and grandpa, we'll be getting up at 3:45 to get ready to head to the hopsital, and as far as we can figure, we're set to go.

Sweetie's sister, proud and loving aunt that she is, has come down with a really bad case of the flu-like upper respiratory junk that's been hitting pretty much everyone this winter--in fact, she was in the ER for it yesterday. She's okay, but heartbroken (and we're heartbroken for her) that she won't be able to hold her new niece tomorrow, and will have to wear a mask and won't even be allowed in the room for very long. But we've told her that as soon as she's over this crud, she can hold the baby as long as she wants... ;-)

God bless--keep us in your prayers tonight and tomorrow morning!!!!

3 1/2 days

From a couple of days ago...Kiddo's pretty excited about the impending
"big brother" thing!

Well, assuming lil' baby girl LutheranHusker doesn't decide to come early (and there's no signs right now that she's even considering the option), Thursday morning at about 7:30 we'll have a new addition to the family.

Posting will be spotty at best until then, as well as a few days following, for what I hope are fairly obvious reasons. =)

Keep us all in your prayers for a safe delivery and a healthy baby.

It's (going to be) a...

Hello world!!!

Well, Sweetie had her 2nd trimester ultrasound on Wednesday afternoon (yep, that's right, Halloween). Kiddo and I were both there--usually, they won't let kids into the ultrasound room--too much of a distraction, and if something ends up being wrong they don't have to worry about what they do or say in front of the kid. Smart policy, but I'm glad they waived it in our case--one of the perks to being married to an OB/GYN nurse!

And we found out that we're having a girl.

I couldn't be happier. Literally. Kiddo is going to have a sister. I'm going to be a daddy to a little girl. I smile whenever I think about it. And I can't stop thinking about it.

Hmmm...I need to start saving up for a shotgun.

Just kidding. Mostly.

They printed out some still pictures for us, and we also got a video of what the ultrasonographer saw. Those of you who have ever sat in on an ultrasound know of which I speak when I say that the still pics just don't do it justice. We got to see her sucking her thumb, and watched her do flips and cartwheels for us. She was really moving around.

No wonder Sweetie's been feeling sick to her stomach. Can't even imagine.

We do have a name picked out, but we're going to keep that to ourselves until after the baby's born. Gotta have some sense of surprise for folks.

And so the countdown continues to February 28, 2008.

Ultrasound

Well, we went in to see Sweetie's OB doc today so she could get an exam and have an ultrasound done. Kiddo came with us and sat in on the ultrasound part of the appointment. Normally they don't allow kids in for the ultrasound, but since Sweetie is one of the nurses in that office, they made an exception for us. And Kiddo's proven that he can be a good boy, sit still and pay attention when he needs to. He's been excited for a few days now about getting to see pictures of his little brother or sister. I had warned him this morning that the pictures he was going to see weren't going to look like the baby photographs he was probably expecting, and he was fine with that.

From what we could see on the ultrasound, everything's going well. Good, strong heartbeat--that's the first thing I looked for when the image came up on the monitor. As long as I could see that little heart beating, everything else was just icing on the cake. And there it was, at 171 beats per minute. And there were the arm buds, and the leg buds, and the head. Lookin' good.

Kiddo was mesmerized. He didn't take his eyes off that monitor until everything was finished. The ultrasound tech printed off a couple of pics for us, with the standard "Hi, Mom and Dad" typed across the bottom. She printed off one for Kiddo, too, that said "Hi Big Brother!" When she handed it to him, you could tell that Kiddo just thought he was the bee's knees. We walked around the office after the appointment to talk with some of Sweetie's coworkers, and Kiddo made sure everyone we talked to got to see his picture of his little brother or sister.

Okay, maybe I'm just emotional because it's late as I type, but I'm getting all weepy-eyed right now thinking about how proud Kiddo was. He's going to be an incredible big brother.

The baby's official due date has been pegged as March 7th. Since Sweetie's already had a cesearean, that means this delivery will be via c-section too, which means we get to pick the date. Usually, they'd do a scheduled c-section on the weekday closest to 39 weeks.

We looked at the calendar. Thanks to 2008 being a leap year, that would put it on February 29th.

Not gonna do that. Nope. No way.

So unless something happens on its own earlier, our new addition should be arriving on Thursday, February 28, 2008.

02-28-08. Cool. I like the symmetry of it.
